John Mayer - Daughters

梅爾是康乃狄克州人，從小聽電台的流行樂長大。十三歲時鄰居送給他一塊史提夫雷范(Stevie Ray Vaughan)的錄音帶，

這是他第一次接觸藍調音樂。自此梅爾開始學起吉他，才兩年他便在當地藍調酒吧登台演出，而且一鳴驚人。

但是他很快就了解到，這不是他真正想要的。梅爾說：「我不想只是個最頂尖的吉他手，因為那充其量不過就是模仿別人，

然後看看誰彈《天空在哭泣》(Sky Is Crying)彈得最好。我希望有人喜歡我的歌，然後彈出跟別人不一樣的味道。」



梅爾非常注重培養自己的創作能力，雖然他吉他的技巧高超，但他儘量不炫燿，力求寫出好聽好記的歌曲。

他十九歲就讀百克里學院，但幾個月後就發現自己喜歡「玩」音樂而不是「研究」音樂。

他笑著說：「那段學習經驗很棒，至於上課就再說了。」亞特蘭大的朋友勸他到南方看看，

不久他就成了像「艾迪閣樓」這種亞特蘭大流行歌曲作者聚會地點的常客。

1999年他出了張EP名為"Inside Wants Out"，專輯裡大部分的歌曲都是他個人獨唱，

也收錄幾首由樂隊伴奏的歌曲。這張唱片將他充滿活力、執著認真的聲音表現的淋漓盡致。

當地的媒體很快就發現了梅爾，並且極力讚揚他的表現。

《亞特蘭大城市情報》(Atlanta CitySearch)就曾這樣報導：「這位年輕人知道怎樣用他那六根琴弦和誠實的歌詞捕捉所有樂迷的心

。」《亞特蘭大憲法報》(The Atlanta Journal Constitution)在梅爾身上發現巨星的特質：技巧成熟、
